Working Title & Title Options

As you probably know, if you are bothering to snoop around my blog, my original working title was “Still Haunted”.

A couple of my test readers have commented that they are not in love with the title.

I like my titles to have more than one meaning. For instance, “Still Haunted” refers both to Bea’s obsession with her past and the possibility of ghostly influence on what happens to her in Corbeander.

For the record, my very first working title was “A Charmed Life”, but I think that works much better as a title for the final chapter. 😉

In the course of pondering alternative titles, some dedicated test readers and I managed to generate nearly 200 alternatives before settling on the new working title, “The Edge of Memory”.

Any thoughts? Other suggestions? popcorn.gif

  1. Here is my thought: Because the subject of the book is so dark, my own preference would be for a title that is not too obviously a pun, even if it has a double meaning. Because the pun might make people expect something more humorous and lighthearted than what they are actually getting into. So for that reason I like something like 1, 2, or 3 more than, say, 5 or 6. But that’s just me!

  2. I thought of a few other options:

    In Memorium
    or
    Dedicated to the Memory
    or maybe just
    In Memory

I still want to think about it some more. 😉

  3. I like Missing Pieces and Finding Home. I think playing off of Bea’s name would be a little too punny, like Clara said. It’s not a fun/light book, and you don’t want to false advertise.

  4. I like Where It Began or Finding Home though I do like hldyer’s option Dedicated to the Memory. I compleatly agree with Jenni that using Bea’s name is too “punny” and gives the wrong impression

  5. *snort* Christina… I am h. l. dyer/Kiddoc. This is my blog. 🙂

I also have come up with two more options:

    Getting Past

    and

    Presence in the Past.

  6. Long Journey Home?

  7. Just wanted to drop you a line to say, I enjoy reading your site. I thought about starting a blog myself but don’t have the time.
Oh well maybe one day…. 🙂
